Saints falls short in loss to Cathedral in the annual "Holy Bowl" game

The annual showdown between Saints and Cathedral Catholic is always a game to look forward to.  It doesn't seem to matter what the team's records are, both get pumped up for this game and the outcome is never certain.  This year was no different.  Cathedral came into the game undefeated at 8 - 0 and Saints was looking for the upset.  Saints took the opening kick off and put together a long 80 yard drive to make it 7 - 0.  Coach Ralph being the Coach Ralph of old called for the on-sides kick on the ensuing kick off.  Saints recovered and was able to put together another scoring drive to go up 14 - 0.  However, Cathedral is 8 - 0 for a reason.  Behind the rushing of Tyler Gaffney and the precision passing of Parker Hipp, Cathedral was able to keep up with Saint's potent offense and the two teams went to the locker rooms tied 21 - 21.  Cathedral received the opening kick off and on the first play from scrimmage scored a TD.  You could hear the air leaking from the Saints balloon.  By midway through the fourth quarter the outcome was pretty much determined.  The Saints offense was unable to sustain the long drives needed to keep Cathedral's offense off the field and the defense was unable to stop Gaffney.  Late in the fourth quarter, with Cathedral was leading 56 - 21, Saints threw long and the ball was intercepted.  The DB tried to run back the INT and was tackled in the end zone for a safety.  Saints was able to put together one last drive and score another TD to bring the score to 56 - 30.  Let's hope Saints gets another shot at Cathedral in the playoffs and the outcome is different.

Final score - Saints 30, Cathedral 56
