On a wet, stormy night, the Point Loma Pointers ended the Saints drive to a third Division III championship.  The Pointers relying exclusively on the run (3 passes for 0 yards in the game) were able to squeak out a soggy win over the defending Division III Champion Saints 25 - 21.  The final outcome was never certain as the lead changed hands seven times.  Point Loma had a difficult time hanging on to the ball and turned it over six times.  In games with this many turnovers, the mistake prone team is usually on the loosing end.  However, with torrents of rain falling all game long, it was impossible to keep the ball dry.  The Saints, who rely heavily on a balanced run / pass offense, had trouble throwing and catching the slippery pigskin and ended the night with 217 total yards to Pt. Loma's 348.  With the Pt. Loma leading 18 - 14 late in the fourth quarter, Saints punter Scotty Miller pinned the Pointers deep in their own territory.  As the Pointers running back Leslie Rogers hit the line the ball squirted into the air and landed in the hands of Saints linebacker Andrew Noonan.  A scrum ensued and Noonan was pushed by the entire Saints team into the end zone.  Saints took the lead 21 - 18 on Hughes' kick and less than three minutes left to play and the crowd sensed a possible victory.  Rogers, who finished the night with 170 yards rushing, had a different sense about the game's outcome and broke several runs down the sidelines for gains of 23 and 14 yards.  This set up Pt. Loma's final score with 1:51 left on the clock and nailed the lid shut on Saints bid for a third championship.
