In Mater Dei's inaugural game at their new stadium, Saints came in hoping to be the spoilers. The JV played the first game in the afternoon, starting things off with a 14 - 13 win. In the night game, it appeared that the problems of the anemic offense of the previous week had been solved. In the first quarter Saints scored 14 unanswered points. However, Mater Dei / Marian always plays Saints tough and wasn't about to let this game get away from them. They scored an early second quarter TD to pull within 7. Saints responded by driving downfield to within field goal range and upped the score to 17 - 7. Mater Dei fought back and put together their own drive, scoring a TD to make it 17 - 14. Not to be outdone, Saints then traded punches with the crusaders and scored another TD with 25 seconds left in the half. The two teams went to the locker room with Saints leading 24 - 14. At halftime, the fans were treated to a great fireworks display almost as good as the one being played out on the field. After the scorefest and fireworks experienced in the first half, fans were anticipating more of the same in the second half. Instead, both teams struggled. The defenses made adjustments, passes were dropped by both teams, the ball was fumbled twice by Mater Dei and yellow flags were flying all over the field (a total of 18 penalties by both teams). Saints was able to score a field goal in the third quarter and Mater Dei scored a TD mid way through the fourth quarter. With two minutes left in the game and trailing by six, the Crusaders marched deep into Saints territory. Saints D turned up the heat and forced several Crusader mistakes. On fourth and 5, Mater Dei attempted a long pass to the goal line. The play was broken up, ending Mater Dei's chances.
